Medium GND Description

The KANI Premium Medium GND is designed for situations where a Soft GND is too gentle and a Hard GND is too strong. The gradient area has been carefully adjusted to provide a balanced transition between the two.

This makes the filter especially useful in scenes where a standard soft transition is not strong enough, but a hard transition would look too abrupt.

The Premium coating uses advanced low-reflection technology that significantly reduces reflections between the ND and clear areas, achieving an extremely high level of square filter performance.

Made from German B270 optical glass with ultra-precision double-sided polishing, the filter maintains excellent flatness and delivers clean, even gradient effects without irregularity.

With very high visible light transmission and minimal blue color cast during long exposure photography, it offers a clear advantage over ordinary filters. The strong water-repellent, oil-resistant, and dust-resistant coating also allows easy cleaning, even with a regular cloth.

Hard GND Description

The KANI Premium Hard GND is designed for high-contrast scenes where the sky is much brighter than the ground. It is especially useful when the sky contains strong light sources and the foreground remains relatively dark.

This Hard type filter features a design in which the ND effect is weaker in the center and rapidly becomes stronger toward the top, with most of the upper half reaching the maximum ND effect. At the same time, KANI’s unique design maintains a subtle gradient even in the center area, making it easier to use than conventional hard-edge filters with a sharply divided transition.

It is highly effective for scenes with large brightness differences, such as backlit landscapes, shaded foregrounds, and compositions that include the sun or strong light in the sky.

Reverse GND Description

The KANI Premium Reverse GND is designed for sunrise and sunset photography, where the brightest light is concentrated near the horizon.

This filter features a reverse gradient design, where half of the filter has an ND effect, the top edge is lighter, and the density becomes stronger toward the center. This structure makes it particularly effective in situations with bright horizon light and relatively lower light above.

The series is available in 0.6 and 0.9 densities, allowing photographers to choose the appropriate strength depending on the light conditions.

The new Premium coating technology is specially designed to reduce reflections between the ND and clear areas to an exceptional level, achieving top-class coating performance among square filters.

Dual Purpose GND Description

The KANI Premium Dual Purpose GND is a unique half ND filter that allows multiple effects in one filter simply by changing the insertion direction.

Unlike conventional filters, this design can produce Soft-type and Hard-type effects with one filter, and depending on how the filter is positioned, it can also create a Reverse-style effect.

The maximum density is set at 0.75, slightly lighter than the more common 0.9, so that the ND effect does not become too strong in many practical shooting situations. This makes it easier to use across a wider range of scenes.

The filter was developed based on requests from professional photographer Junichi Date. After approximately six months of testing and repeated sample refinements, this final specification was completed as a highly versatile landscape filter.

The Premium anti-reflection coating greatly reduces reflections between the lens and filter, even when shooting with the sun in the frame, delivering excellent usability and image quality in demanding conditions.
