Long Soft GND
Premium Long Soft GND is designed with an extended and exceptionally smooth transition, making it ideal for scenes where a natural balance is required between a bright sky and a darker foreground. Compared with standard graduated filters, the gradation extends over a wider area, allowing photographers to achieve a softer and more seamless exposure blend.
This type is particularly effective for mountain landscapes, rolling hills, valleys, forests, and scenes where the horizon is irregular rather than flat. Because the transition is longer and more gradual, the filter helps maintain a natural appearance without creating an obvious dividing line in the final image.
The concept was developed in response to requests from photographer Mamoru Watanabe, who is known for long-term Mt. Fuji photography. In practical use, it is highly effective not only on its own, but also when combined with a Switch Holder and another lighter ND filter to strengthen only selected areas of the frame.
It is also a useful choice for portrait and environmental photography when the sky is included in the composition and a softer top-to-bottom tonal balance is preferred.
KANI’s Premium coating technology is specially designed to reduce reflections between the ND area and the clear area. Combined with German B270 optical glass and ultra-precise double-sided polishing, the filter maintains excellent flatness, sharpness, and accurate gradation performance.
Visible light transmission is extremely high, and the filter is engineered to minimize blue cast during long exposure photography. The durable oil-resistant, water-repellent, and dust-resistant coating also makes cleaning quick and practical in outdoor conditions.

Soft GND
Premium Soft GND is designed with a smooth and natural transition, making it especially effective for sunrise, dawn glow, sunset, and other scenes where the brightness difference between sky and foreground needs gentle balancing. It helps control the brighter upper part of the frame while preserving a realistic and natural tonal flow toward the center.
Because the gradation is soft and gradual, this filter is ideal for landscapes with slightly uneven horizons, such as mountain ranges, lakes, coastlines, forests, and open countryside scenes. It reduces the risk of an obvious transition line appearing in the final image, which is one of the most important points when aiming for a natural result.
Soft GND is often used in sunrise and sunset photography, but it is also highly practical in daylight landscape work when the sun itself is not directly included in the composition. It can also be combined with ND filters for long exposure photography, allowing the sky brightness to be controlled while smoothing moving water or clouds.
KANI’s Premium coating uses advanced low-reflection technology to suppress reflections between the ND area and the clear area. German B270 optical glass and ultra-precise double-sided polishing contribute to excellent flatness, high visible light transmission, and consistent image quality.

Medium GND
Premium Medium GND is designed with a 3cm transition area, placing it between the wider gradation of Soft GND and the tighter transition of Hard GND. It is ideal for photographers who want stronger control than a soft gradation, while still maintaining a more natural blend than a hard-edge type.
This filter is especially useful when the horizon is partially defined but not perfectly flat, such as low mountain ranges, rolling landscapes, urban skylines, or scenes where the sky and land need more balanced yet controlled separation.
Medium GND offers a highly practical middle-ground solution, making it one of the most versatile types in the graduated ND lineup. It helps control the upper brightness more decisively than Soft GND while avoiding the stronger and more abrupt feel of Hard GND.
KANI’s Premium coating minimizes reflections between the ND and clear areas, and the combination of German B270 optical glass with ultra-precise double-sided polishing helps maintain excellent flatness, accurate gradation, and sharp image quality.
Visible light transmission is extremely high, blue cast during long exposure photography is minimized, and the durable oil-, water-, and dust-resistant surface allows quick cleaning during outdoor shooting.
Key Features
- Balanced 3cm transition between Soft and Hard styles
- Ideal when Soft is too gentle and Hard is too strong
- Suitable for partly defined horizons, rolling landscapes, and skylines

Hard GND
Premium Hard GND is designed for scenes with a strong brightness difference between sky and land, especially when the horizon line is relatively clear. It provides stronger control over bright skies while helping preserve detail in darker foreground areas.
Unlike traditional hard-edge filters that can feel too abrupt, KANI’s design retains a carefully controlled transition through the center, making it easier to use while still delivering a powerful effect. This makes the filter practical not only for flat horizons, but also for demanding scenes where stronger tonal control is required.
Hard GND is particularly useful for seascapes, coastal scenes, flat open landscapes, bright daylight conditions, and backlit photography where the upper part of the frame is significantly brighter than the foreground.
It can also be used together with other filters, including other GND or ND filters, when more advanced tonal control is needed for difficult lighting conditions.
German B270 optical glass, ultra-precise double-sided polishing, and Premium low-reflection coating help ensure high flatness, accurate gradation, minimal blue cast during long exposures, and excellent resistance to oil, water, and dust.
Key Features
- Strong gradation control for bright skies and darker foregrounds
- Best suited to flat or clearly defined horizons
- Effective for seascapes, open landscapes, and backlit scenes
- Controlled center transition for easier real-world use
- Can be combined with other filters for advanced exposure control
- Premium coated optical glass with durable weather-resistant surface

Reverse GND
Premium Reverse GND is specially designed for sunrise and sunset photography, where the brightest light is concentrated near the horizon line. Unlike standard graduated ND filters, Reverse GND places its strongest density around the center and gradually becomes lighter toward the top, matching the way natural horizon light behaves at these times of day.
This design makes it highly effective for seascapes, wide landscapes, and horizon-based compositions where ordinary GND filters cannot control the brightest central light effectively enough.
Reverse GND helps preserve sky detail around the sun while keeping the foreground exposure balanced, making it one of the most important tools for dramatic sunrise and sunset shooting.
KANI’s Premium coating technology suppresses reflections between the ND area and the clear area, while German B270 optical glass and ultra-precise double-sided polishing help maintain excellent flatness and clear image quality.
The filter also offers high visible light transmission, minimal blue cast during long exposure photography, and a durable oil-, water-, and dust-resistant surface that is easy to maintain in outdoor conditions.

Wide Reverse GND
Premium Wide Reverse GND is specifically designed for ultra-wide compositions where the brightest light is concentrated across a wider horizon area, such as sunrise and sunset scenes captured with wide-angle lenses.
Unlike standard Reverse GND filters, this Wide Reverse design expands the strongest density area horizontally across the center, allowing for more natural exposure control over a broader portion of the horizon. This makes it especially effective when shooting expansive seascapes, open landscapes, and dramatic sky scenes where light spreads widely rather than concentrating in a narrow band.
The filter gradually transitions from its strongest density in the center to a lighter density toward the top, maintaining natural sky tones while preventing overexposure around the sun. At the same time, the foreground exposure remains balanced without unnatural darkening.
When used with ultra-wide lenses, this design significantly improves balance across the frame compared to standard Reverse GND filters, which may appear too narrow for such compositions.
